What is Mud, Sweat & Cheers?

The “Boone Brigade” Military Officer’s Association is comprised primarily of the Army Officers of the 1030th Transportation Battalion headquartered in Gate City, VA. Our goal is to raise funds to support the family programs and Morale/Welfare/Recreation activities to support the Soldiers of the Battalion.

The 1030th Transportation Battalion (Virginia Army National Guard) was first Federally Recognized as Company D, 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry, 29th Infantry Division on 25 January 1950 stationed in Gate City, VA. The company was reorganized on 10 September 1956 to become the Headquarters, 1030th Engineer Battalion. The Battalion remained an Engineer Battalion until reorganization on 1 September 2006 when it became the 1030th Transportation Battalion.

It is interesting to note that the Special Designation “Boone Brigade” was approved by the Army on 29 August 1982. The 1030th is one of the only units in the Army to be a Battalion size entity with a special designation as a Brigade. Because the unit armory is along the site of the famous “Wilderness Road” used by Daniel Boone and his followers in moving from Virginia into Kentucky the unit requested this designation as a symbol of its community and historic pride. Effective on this same date the battalion was authorized the “Unit Day” of 4 April 1977.

The Boone Brigade Military Officer’s Association is not a government entity.

Proceeds raised to not support the Government or Government Programs.
